So yes, Cupcakes little babies are doing quite well. Helen's 5 babies are learning how to jump in and out of the nestbox already, so fun to watch! (and play with ;-) )
I took some time taking pictures of the Grey and Black Steel babies. I'll post some pictures below. I'll be adding a couple of the pictures to My Dutch Colors page for future reference, for both myself and others to use.
If you look closely in both of these pictures, you can see the Ticking on these Steels start to appear. It hard when they are so young to see it well, but if you look carefully, you can see a chestnut brown/tan ticking in the fur. As the babies get older, it will become more distinct. (Black) Steels are harder to know if they are steels at birth, because unlike the Blue steel and Grey, they don't show that "Agouti" White belly and inner ear distinctly when born. |
Boy are they cute though. Their eyes should be opening in the next week. That is one thing I love about my Jinger, she has these gorgeous Chocolate brown eyes, which most of her babies should inherit.
(Color note: See the Cream? You can tell it apart from the Fawns. The Fawns have a stronger Rufus gene (Red color) and thus the Fawns are a bright Orange, the Cream is a softer version of Fawn. You can see it in the bottom center middle.)
So that is all for now folks! Stay tuned for next week, when babies open their eyes! (and more...lol.)
Have a great week!
