So far for me October has been a tough bunny month.... Not to start off with bad tidings, but I might as well tell ya'll. I had a raccoon get into my bunny hutch. The cage that the said coon attempted, and succeeded to plunder, was Mona's, my black doe. I lost Mona. I've been pretty devastated, she was my best, prettiest little gal, the pick of her litter. I'm just trying to pick up, move on, keep going. I don't know why it happened, I don't understand just how it happened, but it happened, and there isn't anything I can do about it now. The hutch has now been secured, and I do not foresee any chance of another hack or break-in occurring in the future. Still, it has been tough, not only to lose such an expensive rabbit, and suffer a time setback in my breeding program, let alone my show string, I really loved Mona. I tend to get attached to my bunnies, every time I lose one I feel it emotionally, as well as in every other area. If I were to look at the Silverlining in the Clouds, I'm grateful that it wasn't my buck, Bruce Lee, or Aggie or Rosa. They are irreplaceable to me at this point, I can rebreed Jinger to Bruce Lee and hope for another nice offspring. Not to undermine this incident, it is a very serious loss, but trying to give thanks in everything, I am doing my best to insure that it will not happen again in the future, and I'm moving on to focus on the next decisions and tasks at hand.
On to the Happy side of things!!! Amy is due on Saturday, I'm hoping she "took" this time, she has gained some weight, and I'm hoping she'll start nesting soon. This will be her first litter, so I'm monitoring her closely as a first time mom. It has been well over 4 months since I've had some babies, I'm excited for some more new arrivals.
